Sports Minister Advocates Volleyball Development

Minister of Youths and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung has advocated for volleyball development in Nigeria.

He made the assertion while receiving victorious Nigeria’s U-19 volleyball boys team who won gold medal at the just concluded African Youth Games in Algiers.

He called on the private sector to invest in sports development mostly at the grassroots level.

“There is need for the private sector to support sports development not because they want to support but because as they support they will also be taking the young ones off the streets and engage them so that they can have a conductive environment to do business,” he said.

The minister acknowledged Engr. Musa Nimrod for leading the revolution taking place in the federation which was as a result of the democratisation of the election process.

“Since the elections, my hands are already tired of receiving trophies. The election was not popular. So many fought against it, urging me to appoint my friends.”

“The revolution taking place in volleyball is because we decided to democratise the process by allowing the members to choose their leaders,”he said.

Dalung lauded the effort of the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) led by its  president, Dr Amr Elwani, for their partnership with Nigeria.

In his speech, the president of the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB), Dr. Amr Elwani, congratulated Dalung for the achievements he has so far recorded as the head of the sports ministry while urging him to ensure the teams play all round the year and promised that the CAVB will partner with Nigeria Volleyball Federation in coaching programs to develop the Nigerian coaches.
