Croatia one point from Davis Cup victory

Marin Cilic saw off Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 to give Croatia a two-point lead after the opening day of the Davis Cup final against reigning champions France in Lille on Friday.

Home captain Yannick Noah sprung a surprise by selecting Jeremy Chardy for the opening singles, and he was swatted aside in straight sets by Borna Coric.

Former US Open champion Cilic then made short work of an injury-hit Tsonga to put Croatia one win away from the title heading into Saturday’s doubles
