Sylvester Leads Team Offikwu To NCC Tennis League Final

Sylvester Emmanuel has led Team Offikwu into the 2018 NCC Tennis League final after an impressive semifinals performance against Team Goshen.

The tennis league which is organised by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) in collaboration with the Nigeria Tennis Federation saw the first phase of the semifinals matches played on Saturday and Sunday respectively .

In the first semifinals match played at the Tennis Centre,Abuja National Stadium on Saturday, Team Offikwu of Kaduna which was led by Sylvester Emmanuel, defeated Uche Oparaoji of Team Goshen of Ilorin in the men’s singles 6-0, 6-4 while in the second game Christian Paul also humbled Emmanuel Sunday 6-3, 3-6, 10-6. While in the women’s single, Christie Agugbom beat Blessing Samuel 7-6, 6-4.

Yesterday’s results in the men double saw the duo of Sylvester Emmanuel and Christian Paul thrashed Emmanuel Sunday and Joseph Iyoroube 7-6, 5-7, 10-8

In the men’s singles, Christian Paul defeated Uche Oparaoji 3-6, 6-2,10-1  while Sylvester Emmanuel beat Emmanuel Sunday 6-4, 4-1

In the mixed doubles, the pair of Shehu Lawal and favour Moses shifted aside Blessings Samuel and Uche Oparaoji 6-0, 6-4 to book their spots in the finals.

Meanwhile, the second semifinal will kick off today and end tomorrow at the Enugu Sports Club, as Team Leadway Assurance will lock horns with Team Tech Vibes for a place in the finals.

Enugu will be hosting Joseph Imeh, the current national men’s No.1 player and Sarah Adegoke, the ladies’ champion. Also featuring in both teams are three active former national champions – Thomas Otu for Tech Vibes and Babalola Abdulmumin and Clifford Enosoregbe for Leadway Assurance.

The third-place tie for the losing semi-finalists and the championship tie is scheduled for the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Thursday December 6 to Sunday, December 9 with the eventual champions bagging N7 million.
