Future of Canoeing, Rowing, Sailing Assured – National Coach

The head coach of the Nigeria Rowing, Canoeing and Sailing Federation Mrs Enfoe Regina on Wednesday said that the future of the sports is in safe hands as the athletes are set to place the country in the world map. 
While speaking to LEADERSHIP sports at the ongoing National Sports Festival at the Jabl boat club, Enfoe  opined that she is confident in the future of the sports as rising star athletes are being discovered at the sports festival.
“The future of canoeing in Nigeria is very bright because through this sports festival we have being able to discover good talents that will represent the country in future competitions. “
“One of our team member who is competing at the African junior championships won bronze medal today”
According to her “We are going to pick our athletes that will represent us at the All Africans Games from this festival and we are hoping to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic final” he added
In the same vein, the Nigeria Technical Coach Ebeueze Benjamin lauded the federation for bringing up the Olympic standard lane at the Jabi lake adding that the athletes will require more competitions to keep up with their foreign counterparts.
“This is the first time the sports is making it appearance at the National sports festival because of challenges in the past, Thank God that we have gone past the era of lack of boats and other equipment.” He said
“National sports festival is not enough to grow these athletes for bigger competitions,we are going to camp selected athletes and give them the required technical training so that they can perform well at the world stage.”
He also charged the coaches to form clubs and organized competitions in their various state so that to keep the athletes in shape.
Meanwhile junior Africa number one, Bello Ademide Emmanuel who qualified for the final of the 200meter event expressed her elation adding that she is aiming for the gold medal.
“Am very happy to qualify for the final of the 200meter because I was racing with the senior African number while I am the junior African number.”
“I have been training since we came back from the youth Olympic Games at Argentina where I came 5th position in the world, am looking forward to win the gold medal in the finals and represent Nigeria at the All African Games in Morocco next year.”she concluded
The final of the canoeing and Kayak events of the ongoing national sports festival will take centre stage  today at the Jabi boat lake club
