Budget 2019: FG propose N126.55bn for sports ministry

The Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development has proposed to spend N126.55 billion in 2019 fiscal year.

This was contained in the 2019 budget recently presented to the National Assembly for consideration.

The breakdown of the budget shows that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is to spend N1.12 billion; Nigeria Institute of Sports (NIS) has N498.21 million budgeted. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is to spend N111.6 billion; the Ministry headquarters is to spend N7.9 billion while the Citizenship and Leadership Centre is to spend N1.31 billion.

In the budget proposal, the total personnel cost is N103.3 billion; N19.4 billion was earmarked for the overhead cost while N3.88 billion was earmarked for capital projects.

The breakdown shows that the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja has N3.98 billion earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N3.03 billion for capital expenditure.

The Citizenship and Leadership Centre has N1.18 billion earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N128.8 million for capital expenditure.

The NYSC has N116 billion earmarked for recurrent expenditure while N547 million was earmarked for capital expenditure.

The estimates for NFF are N1.025 billion for recurrent expenditure while N98.6 million has been earmarked for capital expenditure.

In the same vein, N417 million has been earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N80.7 million earmarked for capital projects for NIS.

This budget however is part of the N8.83 trillion unveiled by President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 fiscal year which is yet to be passed.

It will be recalled during the budget presentation, the President said N4.04 trillion or 50.31 percent was earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N2.03 trillion representing 22.98 percent earmarked for capital projects.

Other estimates are N492.36 billion for statutory transfers; N2.14 trillion for debt servicing and provision of N120 billion as sinking fund.
