The Nigeria sole representative at the CAF Champions League, Lobi Stars, said they are confident in qualifying out of the group of death to the next round of the continental showpiece.
Despite the barren draw against Wydad Casablanca in Rabat last week, Lobi sit at the base of Group A with four points after four matches, and they face Mamelodi Sundowns in their next clash.
According to the Chairman of Lobi Star Mike Idoko Who spoke to newsmen in Abuja yesterday, assured Nigerians that the Makurdi based club will go through to play in the knockout stage while calling for a fair level playing opportunity for the team
“We are working seriously to qualify for the next round of the CAF champions league because the group is still open and anything team can still make it out of the group,” he said
“All we need is a fair playing ground because from the antecedent that happened in the first two games has spoken for itself in which our football federation is working on it.”
He further noted that the Pride of Benue will replicate their last year performance by winning the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) having played fewer matches than the rest clubs in the Nigerian top flight league this season due to continental engagement.
“I can assure you that we are taking the leagues matches very seriously, forget about our current position on the league table because some teams have played more matches than Lobi.”
“We have just played 3 league matches and we are in week 10 already so we have hectic games ahead of us but we want to prove to Nigerians that we can repeat our last year performance by winning the League again and it is very possible if we have a fair playing ground” he concluded.
