Kidnappers have now demanded an additional ransom of 15 million Naira after they received a first payment of three million Naira before they will release the mother of Super Eagles and Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu.
Ozuruonye Juliet Kalu was kidnapped Wednesday by unknown gunmen in the southeastern Nigerian town of Aba while driving with some of her children.
She was abducted, while the gunmen let go her children.
Efforts to reach the police command have so far proved abortive, but the Kalu family said they have been negotiating with the kidnappers.
In recent years, several of the country’s top stars like John Obi Mikel and Fegor Ogude have reportedly paid huge ransoms to kidnappers for members of their families to be set free.
Kalu broke into the Super Eagles last year after he impressed with French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
On Monday, the former KAA Gent star was named by Nigeria on a squad for matches against Seychelles and Egypt later this month.
