AFCON U23 Qualifiers: Olympic Eagles Trounces Libya, Qualify For Final Rounds

Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles got their qualification to the Africa U23 Cup of Nations on track as they humiliated their Libya counterparts 4-0 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Nigeria’s U23 team had last Wednesday lost 0-2 to Libya in Tunisia but turned the table against the stubborn Libyan

The Olympic Eagles started brightly in the 14 minutes Orji Okonkwo, puts Taiwo Awoniyi through in the box, but Awoniyi misses from close range.

Nigeria continues to heap more pressure at the Libya defence which later paid off in the 34minutes as  Victor Osimhen pounces on a loose ball in the box to give Nigeria 1-0 lead.

the Imama Amapakabo led side came into the second stanza more determine as the Libyan goalkeeper fumbled a save, which saw Osimhen again pounced and jabs into the net to make it 2-0 in the 69th minute.

Osimhen completed his hat-rick with a super finish after being put through by Nwakali eight minute to the end of the match leaving the Libyans devastated.

super-sub David Okereke put the icing on the cake to make it 4-0  as he fired home after the man of the match Osimhen back heels to him to the delight of the Asaba based fans as the centre match referee Anthony Ogwayo blow the final whistle.

Success in the final round of qualifiers in June time will make Nigeria eligible to defend her title in Egypt, and thus able to fight for an Olympics ticket.

The Dream team are four million nairas (N4 million) richer now as Super Eagles stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa promised One million naira per goal.
