Toward enhancing the administration and development of sports in the nation capital, the Forum of FCT Sports Associations (FOFSA) has vowed to reposition the Federal Capital Territory sporting sector.
FOFSA which comprising of all the chairmen of FCT Sports Associations, who collectively agreed to form the body which will champion the cause of Sports development in the FCT.
In a meeting held and coordinated by Dr. Deshi Peter, (a well-respected golfer) at the Dalchfit Suite/Gym, Hotel Gwarinpa, Abuja saw an interim steering committee was put in place to run the affairs of the forum which includes, but not limited to
“Liaise with the FCT Sports department with the aim of recovering all lands allocated in the FCT for Sports development purposes.”
“Enhance on the need for grassroots sports, development programmes with the aim of discovering hidden/budding athletes.”
“Look at the means of stopping the poaching of athletes by other states from the FCT.”
Steering Committee Members headed by Chairman Chief Edem Selong (Squash) as Mrs. N. Duru (Aquatic) Mr. Emeka Onyeama (Cricket) Mohammed Abdullahi (Archery) Mr. Amos Dunia (Cycling) Mr. Oladapo Olaide (Golf) Navy Cmdre J. Pindar (volleyball) are members while Mr. Agbor Chinton is the liaison officer.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the committee, Chief Edem Selong thanked the Association for the confidence reposed on the team and promised to use his wealth of experience in sports administration and vast contacts within and outside Sports circles, to ensure that FCT occupies a place of pride in Sports in the Country and even beyond.
Chief Selong promised that in a few days’ time, a final communiqué will be submitted to the FCT Minister – Alh. Musa Bello.
