2019 Japan Tourney: We will Make Nigeria Proud – Ilerika

Nigeria’s under-16 junior men’s football team, Head Coach Haruna Usman Ilerika,  has assured Nigerians that his led team will do the nation proud in the upcoming 8 Nations Invitational Tournament in Japan

The eight-nation invitational tournament known as the U16 International Dream Cup scheduled to hold in Japan from Wednesday, June 12 to Sunday, June 16 in the city of Sendal.

The Future Eagles will not be the only African team participating at the competition, as they will encounter Senegal who beat them 3-1 in the AYG final in Morocco

Also at the competition will be France, Spain, Mali, Guinea and the Netherlands.

Ilerika who spoke to LEADERSHIP sports during the team training at the Goal project Package B of the Abuja national stadium yesterday opined that the team has intensified preparation ahead of the games and vowed to pick the best 18 legs to represent the country.

“We have 29 players in the camp already we having been working very hard to make sure that we do the nation proud, we all know that the tournament is developmental one, but we are taking the preparation process very seriously” he said.

“The tournament will be an avenue for us to select good players that can be drafted to the national U17 squad because the entire player wants to build a good name for themselves and also we the coaches and the only way we can do that is to make Nigeria proud”.

He went further  noted that the under-16 teams will continue to be a breeding ground, which has produced top-notch players for the senior national team.

“Players like Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi, are products of the U15 team and they are now playing in the Super Eagles and we want to continue the trend to produce good and quality players”.

“The players that we have in the camp are very skillful and they know how to use the ball well I can assure you that the future of Nigeria football is secured with these talented players” he concluded.
