Reigning Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Lobi Stars of Makurdi have vowed to end Enugu Rangers’ unbeaten run as they trade tackles today in their rescheduled match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Enugu.
Team manager of the ‘pride of Benue’ Barnabas Imenger made the vow yesterday .
It will be recalled that Lobi Stars represented Nigeria in the CAF Champions League while Rangers featured in the Confederation Cup but both teams crashed out of their respective competitions at the group stage.
Since they exited the Confederations Cup, Rangers have enjoyed an unbeaten run of eleven matches, recording two away victories within the same period against Katsina United and Sunshine Stars of Akure.
However, their impressive run will come to a halt right before their home fans, if the words of the Lobi Stars Team Manager are anything to go by.
He said Rangers are in fantastic form but his boys are also in a good verve of form so they should be able to deal their opponents the decisive blow.
Imenger said their last 0-0 draw at MFM in Lagos will propel his team against Rangers.
“We are in Enugu for the maximum points. Although Rangers are looking unstoppable, they have never had it easy with us.
“It is going to be an interesting fixture because Enugu is like Lobi Stars second home now. We adopted Enugu as our home ground for CAF Champions League matches.
“So our mission in Enugu is to end Rangers’ unbeaten run. If they could beat Sunshine Stars in Akure, we do not see anything that will stop us from beating them in Enugu,” he said.
Imenger, therefore, called for a level playing field for the best of Nigerian football to be on display for the football loving fans of Enugu.
