Why I stepped on toes in IBB Golf Club – Ahmed

The immediate past Captain of IBB Golf and Country club Abuja, Oseni Ahmed has said he had to step on even the biggest toes in order to arrest the wastages that left the club in N277m deficits before his assumption of office. The avid golfer who had a farewell chat with the press in Abuja yesterday said when he took over the leadership of the club he was conscious of the fact that government subventions were no longer available.

The avid golfer who had a farewell chat with the press in Abuja yesterday said when he took over the leadership of the club he was conscious of the fact that government subventions were no longer available.

He also said the prevailing economic crunch was not encouraging for the usual sponsorship hitherto enjoyed by the club so there was every need to look inward which led to the introduction of ‘the 500.00 token course fee’. Ahmed added that by ensuring that the club  gets values for moneys expended on all capital projects executed during the year plus his quantity Surveying experience combined with the accounting prowess of the club treasurer the N277m deficits was cut down to N13m.

“In his farewell speech he said “In my acceptance speech, you will recall that we promised to reduce the deficits indicated in the statement of accounts of 2017. “In order to achieve this, we took some painful but proactive and productive measures aimed at curbing some avoidable wastages.

This didn’t go down well with some members of the club. “The Statement of accounts for this year shows that the deficit has reduced 95%. Worthy of note is the fact that if the next EXCO sustains these measures we are convinced that the 2019 statement of accounts should show positive figures,” said Ahmed.

The former captain also listed some of his major accomplishments to include securing the club’s boarders; installing pre-paid meters which helped to reduce electricity bills from N4m to N2m monthly; lightening of holes 9&18 as well as tennis section, cleaning and clearing of waterways, additional car parking spaces, introduction of accounting software and bank transaction alerts for probity and transparency among others.
