Power Lifting Federation Warns Athletes Against Use of Drugs

President Power Lifting Federation of Nigeria, Queen Nwankwo has warned physically challenged Athletes against the use of drugs during competitions.

She gave the warning during the maiden edition of the South East Para Powerlifting Championship held at the Gymnasium hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in collaboration with Enugu State Para Powerlifting Association and the Para Powerlifting Federation of Nigeria, at the weekend.

She made it clear to the Athletes that the association would not tolerate the use of drugs, adding that drug remains destructive and harmful to Athletes. She, however, commended the Athletes for giving good account of themselves and promised to continue to monitor and support them.

Team Enugu emerged overall winners in the 3-day tourney with 5 gold, 3 silver medal while Imo state with(5 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), Anambra state (3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze), Ebonyi state (2 gold) and Abia state (1 gold, 1 silver 1 bronze) came 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Other dignitaries who were present at the tournament were commissioners, State sports directors, representatives from the ministry of Youth and Sports, among others. Awards, Certificates and medals were presented to the athletes, coaches and organisers of the tournament. Meanwhile, Nigeria would be hosting 2020 edition of the World Cup Para Powerlifting and 2021 intercontinental Championship.
