NPFL Play-off: Akwa United Pip IfeanyiUbah As Lobi Bow To Rangers

Akwa United came back from a goal down to beat FC Ifeanyi Ubah 2-1 in their NPFL Championship play-offs tie at the Agege Stadium Lagos yesterday.

It was the Promise Keepers first win in the competition after they held Kano Pillars to a 2-2 draw in their first game of the competition on Tuesday.

FC IfeanyiUbah have lost their two games following a 3-1 reverse against champions Lobi Stars also on Tuesday.

The Anambra Warriors took the lead in the 33rd minute through a fine effort from Emmanuel Ugwuka.

Cyril Olisema got the equaliser for Akwa United two minutes after the break after Anozie Chinedu parried Godspower Igudia’s effort into his path.

Akwa United were awarded a penalty in the 57th minute after Charles Okafor handled Ndifreke Effiong’s cross inside the box.

Olisema coolly slotted the ball past Anozie which proved to be the winning goal for the Uyo club.

Meanwhile,  Enugu Rangers have shot themselves back into contention in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super Six after they recorded a 2-1 win over Lobi Stars.

The Pride of Benue were condemned to their first loss in the Super Six after they conceded two first half goals against their fierce rivals

First-half goals from Godwin Aguda and Chiamaka Madu gave the Flying Antelopes the perfect start they wanted and even though Sikiru Alimi pulled one back in the second half for the Pride of Benue, it was not enough to deny coach Gbenga Ogunbote’s men the crucial three points they needed to keep their title aspirations back on track.

It was Lobi Stars that had the first chance of the game after barely two minutes into the game when Alimi fired a shot from close range but his effort went slightly off target.
In the 28th minute, the Flying Antelopes doubled their lead when Madu rounded the Lobi keeper Ospino before calmly slotting the ball into an open net.

After some near misses, Lobi Stars finally got a goal and it came on the hour mark when Alimi connected well with a pass from Kadiri and fired in a low drive which goalkeeper Nana Bonsu had no answer to.

With the result, Rangers have finally secured their first win over Lobi in six game.
