The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has named 25 players ahead of the Region II ECOWAS U-20 and Senior Open Athletics Championships, Niamey 2019.
The list, which was released by the Technical Director of the AFN, Sunday Adeleye, also contained names of four coaches.
Among the events that the Nigerian athletes are expected to partake in are 100m, 200m, 400m, triple jump, discus, 400m, high jump, long jump, and relays.
For the U-20 girls’ events, Rosemary Chukwuma, Tariore Anita, Favour Ofili, Obamuwagun Onaara and Utitifon James were shortlisted.
Enoch Adegoke, Favour Ekpekpe, Shedrak Akpeki, David Olowookere and Omamuyovwi Erhire were named for the U-20 boys’ events.
Those named for the senior men or women events are Arowolo Emmanuel, Jeremiah Jakpa, Emmanuel Ojeli, Joseph Edafiadhe, Austin Nwoye, Joy Udo-Gabriel, Patience Okon-George, Grace Ayemoba, Precious Okoronkwo, and Blessing Ibrahim.
While Enoch, Jeremiah, Shedrack, and Emmanuel will represent Nigeria in the men’s relay races, Joy, Rosemary, Favour and Patience are shortlisted for the female relay races.
The shortlisted officials are Emily Oyase, Godwin Ogogo, Abiodun Johnson and Yakubu.
Ogogo, head of athletics coaches, said the performance of the shortlisted athletes have been “inspiring and encouraging.”
He urged the athletes to remain focus and avoid distraction, adding that “they should be psychologically prepared for the competitions.”
