AAG 2019 : Our Target is to top the medal table-Adeleye

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has set targets for Team Nigerian ahead of the 2019 All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco.

A total number of 51 athletes comprising of 23 male and 29 female will make up the athletics contingent as they will be led by the technical director, Sunday Adeleye with five other technical crew to Rabat.

Nigerian athletes are expected to partake in 100m, 200m, 400m, triple jump, javelin, shot put, decathlon, discus, race walk, hammer, heptathlon, 400m, high jump, long jump, and hurdles relays when the Africa showpiece kicks off on Monday 19th to Saturday 31th August 2019.

According to the Technical Director of the AFN, Sunday Adeleye who spoke to LEADERSHIP Sports said that the team is getting ready to burn the track, adding that the team will be making a huge statement in Morocco.

“The athletes are getting ready as we continue our intensive

preparation at our Kaduna state based camp and we are very optimistic of our athletes

ahead of the All Africa Games, both in the male and female events,” he said.

He further stated that Nigeria will be going out to top the medal table at the end of the game.

“We have experienced athletes that will be competing at the games, we are good to go because we want to make a statement in Africa.”

“We are doing very well all the spirit of the athletes are very high, we are not going to be promising Nigerians that we are going to win 20gold or 30gold we are going to prepare very well and go there as a team in full force that will top the table at the end of the Africa games” he concluded.
