Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Technical Director of Sunday Adeleye, said he has not received any notification of his recalled by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare from the ongoing 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
While reacting to the directive for his immediate recall by the sports minister, the AFN technical director Sunday Adeleye who spoke to the sportswaka.com.ng from Team Nigeria based camp in Doha debunked the claims adding that he has not been notified to return home.
“This report is not true, I have not been notified,” he said.
Earlier, in a statement, the sports minister were constrained to take this swift decision against the AFN technical director due to avoidable massive and unacceptable technical and administrative lapses that brought much embarrassment to the nation.
He further directed that the Ministry will commence an immediate investigation as to what led to the ugly development at Doha.
To this end, Dare has directed that the AFN technical director hand over all matters relating to the ongoing IAFF World Athletics Championship in Doha, to the Secretary General and return to the country within 24 hours.
It will be noted that Divine Oduduru and Blessing Okagbare were initially disqualified from further taking part, in any event, having missed the 100m they were entered for.
However, Team Nigeria appealed to the IAAF on the grounds that they informed AFN, they only wanted to run the 200m, and not both events as they were reinstated to participate in the 200m events, this may have led to the recall of the AFN technical director by the sports minister.
