The Minister of youths and sports development, Sunday Dare, has challenged Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles to stay focused on defending their title at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Egypt.
The minister gave the charged on Friday, while he paid a visit to the team’s hotel camp in Abuja, Dare started that millions of sports-loving Nigerians are supporting them, adding that the players should prove themselves as true ambassadors and talented footballers who will bring glory to the country.
“Always remember that you are carrying the hopes and aspirations of over 180 million, football passionate people. So be ready to fight for your country on the pitch and pick the Olympic ticket.
‘’I think the closest I have seen you play is on television. I did watch you on Saturday and you played out your heart, that is the way it is with sports.’’
“Life is like sports; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose but when you lose there is still a winner when you bring the lesson learnt to bear’’.
Imama Amapakabo led team will begin their campaign in Group B against Cote d’Ivoire on November 9 in Cairo, before taking on Zambia and South Africa.
The top three teams at the event will qualify for the Men’s Olympic football tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
