Team Nigeria continues their dominance at the continental level, having won two gold and one sliver at the ongoing Africa Canoe Under 23 and Junior Championship in Alamein, Egypt.
2019 All Africa Games gold medalist Ayomide Bello Emmanuel, returned has the fastest athlete in the C1 500m women event to win the gold medal at the African showpiece.
In the C1 200m women’s event, Ayomide who is also 2018 National Sports Festival gold medallist also narrowly missed out to claim the ultimate prize but her efforts saw her settling for the Sliver medal.
Omoboni Bosede Precious, secured Nigeria’s second gold medal at the champions after beating all her African counterparts to the finish line in to clinched the KL3 200m para events in grand style.
The 2019 Africa championship which started December 9th is expected climax today in Alamein, Egypt.
Teams Nigeria to the Africa champions is comprising of two athletes(Ayomide Bello Emmanuel and Omoboni Bosede Precious) and two officials, (Olayiwola Fortune female coach,
Olubunmi Ola Oluode( International Umpire) are expected to arrive the country on Tuesday.
According to the Secretary of the Nigeria Rowing, Canoeing and Sailing Federation, Olubunmi Ola Oluode who spoke to LEADERSHIP Sports from the team based camp in Egypt said that, the championship has exposed the areas where Ayomide needs to improve on ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
“Ayomide has already qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games and this championship has exposed where she needs to improve on and am confident that we do that ahead of the Olympic Games” she said.
