Jalingo LG Wins Taraba Governor’s Cup

Jalingo local government has emerged the champions of the maiden edition of the Taraba state Governor’s Cup.

 The epic finale of the championship which was decided at the Jolly Name stadium Jalingo in Taraba state on Sunday, saw Jalingo LG defeating Ibi local government 1-0 to lift the prestigious title in grand style.

A total of 16 local government areas and  two special development center participated in the 2019 edition.

According to the state governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku who was represented by the Commissioners of youth and sports Ibrahim Ada Iman  commended the state FA and other stakeholders for a successful competition while reaffirming the government’s commitments to develop sports in the state.

“I want to thank the organizers of the tournament and other stakeholders for making the tournament successful without any lapses, the state government will continue to support the development of sports at the grassroots level,” he said.

On his parts, the Taraba state football association, (FA) chairman Mahmud Sanusi Mohammed, described football as a unifying factor devoid of tribe, ethnicity and religion, while adding the FA would further intensify plans to discover talents at the grassroots upon his assumption as the FA chairman in June 2019.

“The competitions will be a yearly one which will be contested by all the 16 local government in the state and two special development center, already eleven players have been discovered by scout from Sweden already, are we are looking on how to get more talents from the state”.

 It would be noted that cup winners Jalingo LGA went home with #1million, while 2nd place Ibi local government picked #300,000 as Gassol local government who came third smile home with #200,000.
