Enyimba Bow To Plateau Utd As Kwara Utd, Heartland downs Abia Warriors, Rangers

Cup holders, Enyimba bowed scandalously to Plateau United  4-0 during the Match Day 12 of the 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in Jos yesterday.

The Jos based side opened the scoreline in the 38th minute through Uche Onwuasoanya shot from close range before Mustapha Ibrahim doubled the lead in the 59th minute after rising highest to head home a corner  Ibrahim Babawo.

United continue to heap more pressure as Abba Umar ended every hope of the ‘Peoples Elephant’ to stage a comeback as he scored the third goal of the game in the 71st minute as he capitalized on poor communication between Nwabili and Adebayo to slot home.

With the away side already demoralized, Umar just two minutes after scoring, scored the fourth and last goal of the match to condemn Enyimba to the 13th position on the log with 15 points despite having two games at hand.

The People’s Elephant have been unable to win a match in their last four matches in all competitions and have now conceded 4 goals in an NPFL match for the first time since a 4-3 loss to Nasarawa United in June 2018.

However, the sending of Plateau captain, Daniel Itodo for second booking offence in the 84th minute was a dent to a perfect day for the Jos based club.

Elsewhere, Kwara United defeated visiting Abia Warriors by 2-0 at the Kwara Stadium in Ilorin.

In the cagey first half, both teams played cautious football while seeking out ways to hurt each other.

But at the restart of the second half, the complexity of the game changed as the home side began to dominate proceedings as goals from Abdulrazak and Adah Stephen gifts the Ilorin based team maximum points to secure their fourth win of the league.

Results from other venues saw Wikki Tourists holding Katsina Utd down to play out a 1-1 game while Dakkada FC defeated Adamawa Utd 4-1.

MFM had no response to the two goals scored by Rivers Utd’s Martin Ossy and Nelson Esor, while Heartland further compounded the woes of Enufu Rangers in a 2-1 victory.

Kano Pillars who hitherto had been in a great form were held to a 1-1 draw by Warri Wolves at home while Lobi Stars dimmed the stars from Sunshine Stars with two unreplied goals.

Nassarawa United grabbed their second win in the season after they cruise past IfeanyiUbah to move up to 18th spot on the log at the Lafia Township Stadium.

Following these results, Plateau Utd remain top of the table with 24 points, followed closely by Lobi Stars on 21 points.

At the bottom, Enugu Rangers are 20th with 6 points while Adamawa Utd who are 19th are on 10 points.
