2020 Africa Track C/ship: Cycling Federation Pledges To Conquer Continent 

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has pledged to conquer the continent at the 2020 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Track Championship in Cairo Egypt. 

The African championship is billed to run from Thursday, 16 to Sunday 19 January 2020 in Cairo, as Team Nigeria will battle against top contenders (Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa) among others for glories.

The Nigeria contingent made up of ten athletes (6 female and 4 male) two coaches, and one mechanic are expected to depart Abuja to Cairo on Tuesday, January 14th.

Nigeria will participate in eight events which include; Sprint, Individual pursuit, Team Pursuit, Kerin, Madison, Omnion (6 in 1event), 500m and 1 Kilo Race, and Scratch event.

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) Giandomenico Massari, while speaking to newsmen during the team training inside the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja yesterday said that preparation is in top gear to harvest medals during the continental showpiece.

“At the moment we are finalizing preparation for the Africa track championship that we have started on December 10, five of the athletes (3female and 2male) that will be competing already attended a rigorous training in South Africa from 11to 28 December ensure adequate preparation ahead of the games,” he said.

“We have a good chance of winning medals because we trained in South Africa who is the best in the continental, our female athletes are also ranked among the best in the track, so we can confident that will conquer Africa”.

“Going by our performance in South Africa and  the first edition of the African track cycling tournament where we won 51 medals, Nigeria also qualified for the World championship which will be held in Germany”.

In the same vein, the national team coach, Emmanuel Onasanya also noted that the athletes are in high spirits to deliver their best at the championship.

“The athletes are set and motivated to put up podium finish performance. Am confident that we are going to have one of the best outings at the championship by the grace of God” he said.
