Lagos City Marathon: We’ll Deliver World Class Race-Thomas

The Head of communications and media of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Olukayode Thomas, said preparations are in top gear to deliver a world class race at the 2020 edition of the marathon.

The 5th edition of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 8, 2020.

Thomas who spoke to LEADERSHIP sports stated that more innovation has been included into the 5th edition of the race while adding that they have already received entries from top international athletes across the world.

 “As we have earlier promised, the 2020 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will witness a lot of innovations; one of which is the introduction of the $20,000 bonus for world-class performances,” he said.

“We are already bringing in some of the best runners from across the globe and we are confident that this unique bonus will further spur them to give their very best”.

 “We are working around the clock to organizer a better marathon, as at today we are ready for the marathon we have all the elite athlete about 52 of them have already registered “.

As explained, the incentives range from $5,000 to $20,000, depending on the time recorded by the runners.

Thomas noted that with the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon (now Silver label race) gunning to become a Gold Label race, top officials of the World Athletics (formerly IAAF) will be in town and it is expedient that Lagos meets and even surpass the standards obtainable in other top marathons across the world to achieve the set goal.

“The road is ready we have acquired more cameras, security and protocol officer have been undergoing a series of training ensure proper management of the race”.

“We are assuring the media that a world-class press centre will be available at this year’s race, all the necessary equipment will also, be provided to make life much easier for our esteemed media partners”.

According to him “In the last edition over 100,000 participated at the marathon, but we can looking at getting more people to compete, but as at today( yesterday) we have over 57,000 who have registered for the marathon as the registration will close are the end of January” he concluded.
