The 2019 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League champions, Air Warriors of Abuja, have called for opening screening ahead of the 2020 basket league season.
The two-day screening exercise is scheduled to kick off today inside the Indoor Sports Complex at the Package B of the M.K.O Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP Sports, the chairman of the Air Warriors, Solademi Abdulmajid, stated that the screening programme is aimed at discovering and giving an opportunity to hidden talents who will be drafted to the team ahead of the start of the league season.
“We want to give an opportunity to other players to come and showcase their talent and provide a level playing ground to everyone to see what they can offer,” he said.
“So, we want to bring fresh hands with good ideas to our team ahead of the start of the basketball league season, the technical crew and other scouts will be on the ground to select good players”.
Abdulmajid further revealed that the Air Warriors would be going out to make a groundbreaking statement to defend their title at the start of the 2020 national league season.
“We want to defend our national league title and also see how we can dominate the African continent in 2020”.
Abdulmajid also called on well- to- do Nigerians to cooperate with organizations to support the development of sports in the country generally through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“It has not been easy for the privately-owned club in the country financially, we want individuals and organizations to come to the aid of sport development in Nigeria and the government should create an enabling environment for sports to grow’’ he concluded.
In their debut season at the Nigerian top-flight league, Air Warriors emerged the winners of the Savannah conference played in Abuja, as they stayed true to their name having defeated all seven oppositions to lift the 2019 league title by defeating 2018 winners, First Banks at the national eight finals.
