AFN Operates Majorly Within WA, CAA Rules -Adeleye

Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Mr Sunday Adeleye, said the AFN is affiliated to the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) and World Athletics (WA) formerly known as the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Mr. Sunday, disclosed this via Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) official twitter handle @The_AFN yesterday

According to him, the Article 1 of the 2017 Athletics Federation of Nigeria Constitution, he said “the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Founded in 1944 is one of the National Sports Federations with the statutory mandate to regulate and
develop Athletics in Nigeria. It is affiliated to the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) and World Athletics (IAAF).”

He said the AFN operates majorly within the rules of the CAA and the WA which means there will be no Government interference in the day to day running of its affair. He enthused that if any party or Member of the Board has any grievances, the person ought to take such grievances to the Congress, in line with the provisions of the Constitution.

According to the TD, “Right now, there is only one AFN and that is the one presided over by HON. ENGR. IBRAHIM SHEHU-GUSAU, PhD, FNSE, FNCS which is recognized by both the CAA and the WA.”

On the All-Comers taking place in Ozoro, Delta State, Adeleye says he is impressed with the massive entries
received for the first All-Comers of the season and noted that the entries are proof that athletes are geared up for the season ahead with two major competitions lined up, aside the Olympics.

The AFN All-Comers, will take place from the 13th to 15th of February 2020 at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro.
