Sports minister Bows to Athletes, Journalists pressure reopens Gate

The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare has directed that the athlete and media gate of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium be reopened after lamentations from sports men and journalists became ceaseless.

The Minister had earlier directed that the gate should be put under lock and key, a development that generated angry reactions from members of the public who consider the gate as a beeline to the stadium’s facilities.

A stadium source who pleaded anonymity said the Minister had initially directed that the gate should only be closed for a day but the resultant effect was a lengthy closure of the entrance.

Refreshingly, a sports ministry staff was on ground to pass across the new directive the Minister to gate men on Monday morning as staff of various agencies with offices in the stadium were resuming at their duty posts.

The Moshood Abiola National Stadium is an imposing structure located near Abuja city gate. Despite its recent looks, it is considered as one of the most expensive stadiums in the world and has two sections, Packages A and B.
