The chairman, League Management Committee (LMC) of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Professor Olatunde Morakinyo has said that the committee is uncertain over the commencement of 2020 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League season.

Morakinyo, who stated this in a chat with LEADERSHIP sports, lamented the negative effect of coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) on volleyball activities in the country.

He said a decision on whether the 2020 edition of the league will be held later this year, would be taken after the LMC meets with the NVBF president and other stakeholders.

“It’s a decision that I can’t take, but we are considering it and discussion is ongoing with the president of the federation. So, when everything goes clearly, we will know if we’ll go on with the league or not” he said.

“Because we have to consider time, finance on the parts of the federation and the clubs themselves and COVID-19 protocol. All these will be considered before making any decision.”

“COVID-19 has affected the league seriously because the players didn’t play for over 6 months, both locally and internationally. The economic impact of COVID-19 on the stakeholders of the game are enormous.”

Morakinyo also stated that the LMC is working tirelessly to improve the league so as to attract investors. “We are working hard to get sponsors for the league, so we are calling on corporate organisations to come and invest in the league,” he concluded.
