The Super Eagles squad is set to witness a massive shake-up as the Technical Adviser of the team, Gernot Rohr has been given a marching order to immediately inject Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players into the senior’s national team.
This coming after the abysmal performance by the three-times African champions following their doubleheader disappointing draw against the Lone Stars of Sierra Leone in their 2022 Africa Cup of Nation’s qualifiers last week.
The ministry of youth and sports development advised the German gaffer to shake up the current Eagles squad in other to strengthen the Nigerian top-flight league as well as give opportunities to home-based players.
A source, who attended the meeting between the sports ministry and the officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja on Tuesday, revealed that Rohr has been mandated to live in Nigeria and monitor the NPFL players for national team call-up.
“Our National Team must have an injection of home-based players drawn from the professional league”.
“The Technical Adviser must live in Nigeria and monitor the professional league in order to pick talented home lads. Players must be picked on their current form weekly”.
“This idea of asking his assistants to monitor the domestic game is unacceptable. NFF must establish a camp where players assemble to train.”
According to the source “ the technical adviser must-watch weekly games preferably the top of the table fixtures as it is done in other countries. NFF must explore and commence the provision of contents when it comes to the games played in the NPFL on an incremental basis” he added.
