Enyimba International FC began their CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) A Group campaign on a winning note after they defeated their Libya counterparts Ahli Benghazi 2-1 in Aba today .
The two-time CAF Champions League winners used their experience to earn a hard-fought 2-1 in front of handful of fans.
The People’s Elephants opened the scoreline in the 10th minutes of the encounter following a long-range shot for captain Augustine Oladapo to give the home side the led, Abdallah Imhamed draw the game levelled for Ahli Benghazi eight minutes from the spot-kick after Omaka committed a foul in the box.
Just before the stroke of halftime Victor Mbaoma strike past the North African keepers to give Enyimba a 2-1 lead.
At the restart of the tie both teams came back in search of more goals but would not find the back of the net as the eight-times NPFL champions held on to secure their first win in the ongoing continental games.
Speaking after the match Enyimba head coach Fatai Osho, said his team deserves the maximum points from the game, adding that the victory would spur the team when they battle South Africa’s Orlando Pirates next week Wednesday.
“I am happy with the win, even if we scored 10 goals there will always be room for improvement in the team, we did well in this hot weather. We played against a formidable team with good character, playing as a unit helped us. We will now focus on the next game in South Africa” he said
“We didn’t change our style, but gave them a surprise element in Samson Obi. I knew they have done their assignment on us and they were not expected that tactical change. Obi was tactical discipline and he played according to our plans”.
“We could have scored more than two, our conversion rate is still poor compared to the huge number of scoring chances we are creating in games”.
