FG, LOC Ends Cold War, As National Sports Festival To Go On

The federal government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) has reached an agreement that the National Sports Festival (NSF) would continue despite initial threats to shut down the Games

Recall, the sports ministry and the Edo State government were are at loggerhead over the cancellation of the ongoing National Sports Festival in Benin City due to lack of funding for the  Nigeria Olympic Games.

According to the statement signed by the project manager of the Media and Communication Committee for the Games, Musa Ebomhiana said after an emergency meeting to review the president intervention over the financial crisis threatening the NSF said the Games would go on.

“The LOC agreed that the Presidential intervention is a very strong and direct commitment which we must all respect, honour and take seriously”.

“We strongly believe and respect commitment from the Presidency. We take them by their words. Its a strong message to us that they are strongly committed to redeeming their pledge to support us for the loses suffered arising from the three postponements of the games,” the statement reads.

The LOC further appreciate the federal government and the Edo for his high level of commitment for the successful hosting of the games.

Collaborating this, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Nebeolisa Anako said the presidency has assured the immediate release of funds for the Games.

“Following the news making the rounds  that the Edo State Government will shut down the National sports Festival if the Federal Government support does not come through. The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is the Organiser of the National Sports festival while the Edo State Government is the host. I wish to announce that the Athletes are  in their various game villages and games are ongoing following the intervention of the Presidency assuring that the financial support to the Edo State Government is in it final processing stage”

“The games are not under threat. There was an Information gap earlier but as we speak, the games are ongoing and we assure you there won’t be any closure till  the closing of the National Sports Festival””Anako concluded.
