NSF : Stakeholders Back Delta, To Host 21st Edition

Delta State would battle Kaduna and Oyo States for the hosting rights of the 21st Edition of the National Sports Festival.

It should be noted that, federal government through the ministry of youth and sports development is expected to announce a new host  today at the closing ceremony of the 20th edition at the Benin City, Edo State .

Some of the stakeholders has tipped Detla state to host the Games ahead of Kaduna and Oyo States due to the states of the art sports facilities and peaceful environment compared to Kaduna and Oyo States.

However, the Delta State Sports Commission boss, Tonobok Okowa, said has submitted his state’s bid to the Sports ministry, hoping that Delta will be considered going by the determination of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to stage a befitting next edition of the National Sports Festival.

“We have summited our bid to host the next edition of the games, we are hoping that it would be granted by the sports ministry” he said.

Recall that Detla won the 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja 2018 and also destiny to defend their title at the ongoing National Sports Festival following their impressive performance so far.

Kaduna state has bid to host the festival for the third time. It first hosted the third edition in 1977, and had another successful hosting in 2009.

Reports has it that Oyo State had earlier disclosed her interest to host the next edition of the Nigeria’s Olympic Games.

The last time Oyo State hosted the National Sports Festival was in 1976.
